The Dancing House is a site of great historical significance in Prague considering it was built upon the rubble of one of the homes destroyed in the 1945 U.S. Allied bombings of Prague. Created as a headquarters for Nationale-Nederlanden, a dutch based insurance company – it was nicknamed “The Dancing House” by its designers, Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in cooperation with Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry.

Today the Dancing House is considered one the most important pieces of postmodern architecture in Prague. It serves as an example of deconstruction architecture has its name is derived from the appearance of the building similar to that of a man and a woman dancing together. According to the designers, the addition of a feminine tower as seen in the glass structure, the building represented a female yin balancing the male yang. This structure was able to achieve a balance between the modern and ancient that continues to be a symbol of modernism in the city of Prague.
